Prize #7) A copy of JELLICOE ROAD by Melina Marchetta. It really has nothing to do with football or sports or anything, but I love the book and think the main guy character is pretty hot. That’s a good reason for a prize, right?

1. Basketball, definitely. I grew up in a family and in a country that worships the sport so much.

2. Nichelle Nichols, for putting up with crap and worse in order to represent a minority character in a position of authority in sixties television.
1. This is cheating, but Exy! It’s a fictional sport I developed over ten years for a novel. If I had to choose a real sport, it’d have to be hockey. Gotta love something that fast paced and violent.

2. Harriett Tubman.
I obviously don’t need the crit from Sara. π

Awesome! Thanks so much, and congrats on getting your ARCs!
1)My favorite sport is Quidditch.
…
No, really, it’s swimming (and horse-back riding, though I rarely do that) Not even competitive swimming, just for fun. π
2)I’m assuming this can’t be fictional. I’ve never really had a role-model…*thinks* Can I be cliche and say Amelia Earheart?

This is an amazing contest, by the way!
1) My favorite sport is Tennis because, I love the feeling that you get when you step onto a tennis court. For me, it’s like I can take on the world.

Elizabeth I, Princess Diana, Aung San Suu Kyi, Petra Kvitova, Veronica Roth, Jennifer Lawrence, Serena Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Austen, my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Clark, my grandmama, or Suzanne Collins. I guess overall, Aung San Suu Kyi because she’s Burma’s number one advocate for Democracy and it takes a lot of guts and belief to stand up to a whole military. Also because I am from Burma!

Andrea
Love the competition by the way, it’s a great idea.
1. My favourite sport would have to be- well. Pretty much anything and everything. Growing up in a sports mad family you learn to love it. Particularly soccer, cricket and NFL.
2. I know it’s corny and sad but the most kick ass woman I know is my mother (DON’T LAUGH!). But if you want someone famous I’d have to say Cleopatra, Madonna or Oprah. It’s a long list really!

1. I like college football and basketball.
2. Is it weird to say Lisa Ling? Because she’s pretty cool. And I’m interested in winning everything but Sara’s critique because I already won one from her. (It was awesome, btw.) I guess I ought to be nice and let other people have a shot at that. I’d love a shot at a critique from Sarah Skilton or Jennifer Wolf, though.
1. Croquet
2. Wonder Woman, cuz me needs an invisible jet π http://t.co/ksnLU5F
1- I am a huge sports fan and love football, but my favorite sport to participate in is swimming!
2- Hmmmm… My favorite badass woman?? Any child advocate, especially my friend Stacy.
1). Weightlifting
2). Madam from Wayland Flowers and Madam. She was saucy and she could say just about anything she wanted with impunity.
1. I’m not much of a sports fan, so I’d have to say Ping Pong. This is where I am best able to show off my mad skills in jumping around like a lunatic.
2. My favorite baddass women is JK Rowling. She’s a fab mother, a killer writer, remarried and making it work, an insanely smart business women and a liberal to boot. Go Jo!
Hi Miranda! Thank you so much for hosting such an awesome contest π — I commented on your goodreads page & then realized it should be here! Sorry about that.
Born and raised in Texas, my favorite sport would have to be football. And not just any type of football – high school football! There’s just something about the innocence and pure passion that goes on during high school football. Once money & contracts get involved, those elements get lost in the game. My favorite badass woman would have to be my mom π She raised four girls to be strong, independent women. That right there takes A LOT of badassness (is that even a word? lol).
I’m only interested in winning a book/gift certificate. Thank you again for this opportunity.
1. My favorite sport is ice hockey! Especially watching live – so much better when you can hear the swish of the skates on the ice.
2. Badass woman of the moment – Bryony Pearce, author of Angel’s Fury. I just learned on an article on Enchanted Inkpot that she took a call with a potential editor of her novel while in labor! That beats all for me . . .
1) My favorite sport is Shorinji Kempo. It’s japanese martial arts. It’s really cool b/c it really attacks the weak points of your opponent’s body without requiring too much energy input. Greates self-defence for women. Ever.
2) Drew Barrymore. She grew up with a difficult mother and a lot of problems and yet she turned into a great, independent woman, actress and director. Perfect role model material!
If this posts twice I apologize!
Favorite sport – baseball.
Favorite badass woman – Harriet Tubman.
1. Favourite sport is hockey. Love, love, love hockey. I eat, sleep, and breathe Vancouver Canucks!!
2. Favourite badass woman has got to be Joan of Arc.
1. I’m having a really hard time thinking of just *one* sport to call favorite. Hmm… I’ll go with baseball. But soccer and football come in at a very close second.
2. Favorite bad ass woman?! That’s even tougher. I’ll go with Marilyn Monroe because she is idolized by the MC in my current novel-in-progress. I’ve got Marilyn on the brain. π
Wow, lots of awesome prizes! But the one I’m most interested in (aside from the books, that’s a given) is the first chapter crit from Sara.
Because. Well. Sara is a pretty bad ass agent. π
My favorite sport is baseball and my favorite badass woman is Veronica Mars!
Yay for ARCs!
My favourite sport is soccer, with ultimate frisbee running a close second. My favourite badass woman? Canada’s Christine Sinclair, who waved off a broken nose in the Women’s World Cup against Germany. She then proceeded to score a goal. And when an opponent fell down after a tackle, she hollered at her to get up. (After all, HER nose wasn’t broken!) Now that’s what I call badass!
I love almost all sports, but my favorite is basketball. My favorite badass woman is Oprah. I’m interested in winning the book or gift card prizes. Thanks so much!
1. Hmm. Does running count as a sport? Probably, so that’s mine. Not speed, but distance.
2. For favorite woman, I’m going to have to go with Ayn Rand. That’s seriously trite but, *shrug*, it’s the truth. That woman had some serious cahones.
Yay! Congrats on getting your ARCs!! I’m being happy just imagining that pretty cover of yours on an actual book! (and yes, I’m probably just being melodramatic)
My favourite sport would be judo, hands down. Squash is a close second, but my ultimate love is still judo.
Hmm, as for favourite badass woman… I seriously have no idea. Probably an author. Aw hell, I’ll just go with JK. JK Rowling it is (: Writing Harry Potter qualifies for badass, no?
My favorite sport to play in high school was basketball (at 5’2″, I was a point guard) but I like watching foot ball these days.
And my favorite badass woman? Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor. Totally.
Yippie! Congrats on getting your ARCs π They look so pretty π
My favorite sport would be soccer/basketball though I am actually quite bad at them.
And favorite badass woman would be…hmmm… maybe Katniss from the Hunger Games?
(and uh only interested in the books/gift cards π )
I’d love to win the critique!
My favorite sport is hockey (love the fights on the ice)
My favorite badass woman is Dakota Cassidy (who else can wear a tiara while smoking a cigarette?)
My favorite sport is football. Girls got to play flag football when I was in high school (many years ago), but I preferred tackle with the kids on the block at home. Baseball is second, although I can’t throw or catch!
My favorite current-day badass woman is Lady Gaga. She dares do what she wants, she has talent, and she is very loyal to and appreciative of her fans. Hilary Clinton is second. I’m all admiration for what she’s done.
Holy cow those are some awesome prizes!!!!
My favorite..probably because it’s the only sport i can play semi-decently..is golf. I’m way unathletic!
As far as basass women…hmmm tough….does Joan Rivers count? She is so hilarious…no filter on her mouth what so ever!
Haefner919 at yahoo dot com
I know I shouldn’t enter, but I really want the ARC (Can I beg you for one anyway? Please? *bats eyes*)
1. My favorite sport is any sport that doesn’t require actual talent, or sweat, because I’m a lazy bum. Does chess count? π I love watching football.
2. Favorite Bad A Woman. Hmmm. Maybe Jada Pinkett Smith. She’s about the only celebrity mom that I actually respect and I think she pretty cool. Plus she’s married to Will Smith.
Favorite sport is Baseball, from tiny tots to major league.
Favorite Bad A Woman is Elizabeth 1, with 44 years on the throne. Who says a woman can’t rule? π
Great contest! Thanks for offering this opportunity!
1. My favorite sport is dance…does that count? (I swear it does!) π
2. And my favorite bada** woman at the moment is…Kate from LOST.
Can’t wait to read CATCHING JORDAN!
My favorite sport is basketball since I used to play for many years! As for my favorite badass? That would be J.K. Rowling, who despite everything and no matter the obstacles managed to become the most recognisable author of the decade!
I’d be interested in winning books/giftcatds
My favorite sport to watch if football. To actually play… does exercise count?
Favorite bad ass woman? There are too many to pick from! I’ll go with Queen Victoria. Just for fun.
I love all sports…my favorite today is football, Dallas Cowboys. I am a girlie girl but have loved watching all sports and have high respect for males and females who are athletic.
My bad-ass woman would have to be my mom who passed on May 6th. She had seven children and always remembered to tell us she loved us and encouraged me to follow my dreams:]
My favorite sport to play is probably badminton. Fun even if you have minimal athletic skills.
My vote for favorite badass woman goes to Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica.
Favorite sport is soccer, hands down. I LOVE faking out the opponent and blasting past them.
Hmmmm… I guess Suzanne Collins for making the BEST YA books ever!
My favorite sport is soccer ( the most popular sport in Germany!)
My favorite badass woman is probably J.K. Rowling.
I’d like to win the giftcard/ARC only.
1. My favourite sport would have to be hockey. I don’t know why, but I get very competitive and aggressive when playing this game or watching it. I am not a competitive person by nature, but I tend to get so into this sport. I LOVE watching it.
2. My favourite ‘badass’ woman would probably have to Joanne Rowling. She rose from poverty and wrote a children’s book that her agent told her would NOT sell. Then, 12 publishers rejected the novel. After that, Bloomsbury UK decided to take a chance. Now it is one of the most well-regarded series in The Entire World. It has been made into 8 movies and also translated into many different languages. But for me, the fact that Joanne wanted to rise above her difficulties and change her life for not only her, but her young daughter Jessica (named after Jo’s favourite ‘badass woman’ Jessica Mitford), really tells me that she is truly badass. π
Ahhh! So pumped that you got ARCs by the way! How exciting! Congrats, Miranda.
I was gone all last week, so I didn’t see this! Anyway… my favorite sport is DEFINITELY basketball, and my favorite heroine is probably Katniss (but Jordan’s right up there!). π
Whoops! I forgot to mention that my favorite kickbutt woman is… my mom. Cheesy much?
My favorite sport is roller skating. Not in-line. Quad skates with pom-poms on and it must be under a disco light with “I wanna rock with you” playing.
Yes, that’s a sport.
My favorite badass woman is Abigail Adams because when she needed pins, she knew just how to get ’em.
My favourite sport? Horseback riding. (Yes, it’s a sport. It’s even in the Olympics.) I love the connection you get from being with a horse, just the movement and muscle together.
My favourite badass woman… hmm, how about LIGHTS? She’s the most real artist I know. She wears heavy eyeliner, low ripped tank tops and plays WoW, but her personality is so sweet that it just seems natural. And her music is natural.
My fave sport… oh a hard one cos I’m a big fan of *watching* sport (playing is entirely different – unco much?). It’s probably Aussie Rules football… hard to describe. There’s some kicking and catching of an oval shaped ball… and cute boys wearing tight shorts.
For my fave badass woman… well Mum could stop me with a glare back in the day. But my 2 yo has inherited her spirit. Evil genius in the making, especially at the moment with a broken arm. Smiles while plotting your downful. So she’s a way off woman but all that gives us is time to prepare.
Favorite sport is probably tennis if I’m playing. If I’m watching, it’s football or basketball as long as I’m watching it with people who get really excited for it. π
Favorite badass babe? I’m probably going to have to go with Zira from Daughter of the Flames by Zoe Marriott. It’s one of my favorite books and she’s pretty darn hardcore!! π
Shoot- Sorry! Forgot to mention that I’m not a writer… So I am only interested in winning the GC/Books, not the critiques. Thanks!
